What to Expect 

Before the procedure 

  • The area is cleaned and sterilised 
  • Local anaesthetic is applied for comfort 

During the procedure 

  • A fine needle is used to aspirate (drain) the fluid from the cyst 
  • In some cases, a corticosteroid injection is given afterwards 
  • The procedure takes around 15–20 minutes 
  • You may feel mild pressure but minimal pain 

After the procedure 

  • Mild swelling or tenderness may last 24–48 hours 
  • Most patients return to normal activities the same or next day 
  • Heavy wrist strain should be avoided briefly 
  • Follow-up may be arranged if needed
